Or maybe it should only be polished or crystallized to look like new? How do you determine what has to be done? What's the difference between grinding and honing, polishing and crystallization? Do not attempt to restore your stone yourself, this requires a great degree of skill and experience. Once the restauration process has been determined, it is very important to design a good maintenance program. This will keep your stone in perfect condition, prolong its life and give you added enjoyment. The term crystallization has entered the language of the marble polishing field to discribe a process used to polish and maintain a shine on marble surfaces. The crystallization process consists of spraying a fluid onto the marble floor and buffing it in with steel wool under a buffing machine. The steel wool generates heat through abrasion and the chemical reacts with the marble, producing a new compound on the surface of the stone. This procedure protects the surface of the stone, adds shine and may even harden the stone, increasing its wear. It is extremely important that this process be carried out only by trained professionals who are thoroughly familiar with it. It is a dustfree treatment, that should be done 3 monthly to preserve the identity of your floor.
